The Associated Press, USA
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) In an effort to reduce obesity in children, State School Superintendent Morton has asked the state school board to consider certain restrictions as a gradual process. ...MORE
- VEND BUZZ COMMENT: Mr. Morton apparantly recognizes two possibilities: that a sudden shift in vending items would cause students to rebel against the new products, and that such a shift would affect the revenue that the schools receive from vended sales. A gradual phase-in/phase-out process might be more beneficial to the students, the schools and the obesity problem.
And, of course, participation in NAMA's Balanced for Life initiative should be mandatory.

- VEND BUZZ COMMENT: The students have a point that they can get regular snacks and drinks from other sources, but this evidences that they are not interested in doing anything about student obesity. They need to be courseled by their parents and teaches that exercise and nutritional products added to their lifestyle can add to their better lives in many ways as they mature. And that vending is not the source of the problem; it goes deeper than their choices at a vending machine.

- VEND BUZZ COMMENT: This story about students, $3 gourmet coffee and convenient credit is this month's prime "thought starter." Read the entire story, OCS operators, and then start thinking. (A hint: why not have single-cuppers throughout the law school so students can have their "coffeehouse experience" at much less than $3.00 a cup --and for cash that doesn't involve an interest add-on?)
The law school in the story is symbolic of many other types of grad-schooling students who must have their daily specialty coffee.

We present this as contrast to our vending's worst problems, such as stocking our school macines with new products, paying commissions for vending space at client locations, even paying higher health insurance premiums. etc. We feel fairly lucky when we look at other parts of the world.
